Apple iPhone 3G prices in India good news for rivals
Mobile phone makers Nokia, Samsung and Motorola have little to worry about now that Apple has revealed the prices of their iPhone 3G.
Apple iPhone 3G would go on sale in India from tomorrow. Both Airtel and Vodafone are going to sell it.
Apple iPhone 3G would sell for Rs. 31000 and Rs. 36100 for the two models (8GB and 16GB).
Nokia had most to worry about as they are the largest mobile phone seller in the Indian market. They recently launched the Nokia N96 which is a potent challenger to the iPhone.
Samsung too has been advertising a lot about their touchscreen phones which are increasingly becoming popular in the Indian market.
HTC too has all their major new products already on sale in India.
There is no doubt that Apple would sell decent number of iPhones in the Indian market. People are crazy about this product around here. They have been using the imported unlocked devices for months now.
But the fact remains that the company has lost a golden opportunity to change their image here in India. Most people have little idea about the company and what they have for them in their product range.
If the iPhone was priced sanely, more people would have bought one. More people would have had the Apple Experience. And this could have resulted in more people looking into Apple Macs and buying them.
Apple is one of the fastest growing mobile markets in the world. People here easily spend thousands of rupees on mobile devices. A decently priced iPhone would have easily sold a lot of units. At current prices, Apple is not going to see much bump in their global sales figure.
